Child Labor (for use with the "activist" theme)
Photo Reflections
Eighth grade students will reflect on photos they have observed and analyzed while working on the Civil Rights program.

Hoses are not friendly!

in this picture there are two african american men who were marching for there rights and the rights of other minorities. As you can see non violent protest often ended with violence from firemen policemen and any other authority who were ordered to release hounds and open the hoses which had more than 200 hundred pounds of pressure.

The Boycott

The boycott is one tactic according to transit workers going on strike. As we all know not just transit workers go on strike, all workers go on strike for more money or respect.I think workers deserve an equal amount of money and the time they need.

Equal pay for children

Children were working without the right amount of pay, sometimes no pay. They also worked under poor condisions. Children were being hurt badly. Such as losing limbs, along with severe infections. Until Mother Jones came along in 1903 and held a crusade for children rights.

CHILDREN MARCH FOR THEIR LIVES

THIS PICTURE MAKES ME FEEL PROUD BUT WORRIED FOR THE KIDS THAT HAD TO GO THROUGH SO  MUCH STRESS JUST TO GET JUSTICE.I WOULD HAVE BEEN SO UPSET IF I HAD TO DEAL WITH HAVING A JOB AT THE AGE OF EIGHT.I FEEL IT WASNT GOOD BECAUSE KIDS DIE AND GET SEVERELY INJURED. SOME CHILDREN WERE EVEN SCARED BECAUSE THEY WERE AWAY FROM THEIR FAMILY .

Childrens Rights Movement

The children in this picture are working on top of the machines with barefeet. This is because factory owners made children work at young ages so they didnt have to pay as much money to them as they do to the adults. This is dangerous because children are getting sick and getting hurt and thats not good. To prevent this congress came up with an act that made any child 15 and under to be able to go to school.

Hanging

The picture shows image of the chinese man being hung by his hair and the sign that discriminated against chinese workers. This cartoon shows the racism towards Asian Americans, during this time. Chinese could not testify against whites in court during the 1872 in California after the violence increased against immigrants including chinese.
