Fight The Power! ~African American Rights~

Why were African American's treated different? Why were armys and schools segregated? Why were African American people banned from certain places? What helped bring out desegregation? How did these African American's  resist all these kinds of threats and harsh behaior toward them?

From the 1940's through the 1970's, African Americans has been going through tough times. It was already hard enough fight in segregated armies but, African American children had to go to segregated schools as well. African Americans were not treated fairly at all. They fought for their rights in non-violent protests such as sit-ins and boycotts.

African Americans fought bravely in WWII. They had the worst jobs but stil fought and worked in the lousy condition that they were given. African American students in the South got fewer books and supplies. But that didn't stop them from learning and dedicating their time to what they had to do. But, there had to be a change. African Americans were people too and they had to get the same justice that they deserve. The Little Rock Nine proved to do that. They were African American nine students protected by the National Guards who went to white high schools to get a better education in life.

The Fourteeneth Amendment brought out that the government could not "deny to any person... equal protection of the laws" no matter if it was their race, religion or beliefs. The Case Brown vs. Board of Education made the ruling that 'seperate' was not 'equal'. Segregated schools were illegal after that with the help of the NAACP.

From then started the Montgomer Bus Boycott  to  the Greensborough Sit-In's. With angry assaults from whites who supported segregation, it was a mighty struggle for African Americans to go through with the non-violent protests. They formed a Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee and got together to fight for cvil Rights.

To this day, a lot of racism stil goes on but many African Americans struggled to get their independent freedom. From desegregation to jobs to votes, the non-violent protests worked. We all know that the struggle for civil rights is not finished but for now, we can manage.
