The Declaration of Independence stated that all men are created equal.Well guess what, it only meant white wealthy men. Women did not have the same rights as the men did. Therefore, they began a movement called the women's suffrage, during the 1800's.The participants were Alice Paul,Elizabeth Candy Statin and the women. They began this movement because they were tired of not being treated the way they should be.The movement was successful because they marched from one place to another.
Women had so many injustices .They could not get custody of the children after divorced.Women were not allowed to vote in local ,state or presidential elections.Poor women had to work, but they earned less money than men for the same amount of hours. Most women who were married could not work.
The methods of resistance were that they marched. They also held up signs as they marched.Alice Paul gathered all the women that felt unappreciated and together they marched. The methods for the movement were successful because everyone participated.
After marching, protesting, going on hunger strikes and getting arrested women could finally be able to vote. After everything that the women have went through they finally had equal rights. The primary source i got this from was "Women picket in front of the white house Library of Congress, Prints and Photographs Division."
This movement is important because people need to know what women have went through. They need to know that women have went through alot, that they have suffered. I feel very happy about the movement. Thanks to Alice Paul and other women that participated, women finally have the rights that they need.
