"Ageism": The New Discrimination in Our Society

This campaign's objective is to raise awareness of the many cases of age discrimination. It is also to reduce age discrimination by taking action against it.

"Ageism" is a trend of discrimination that is often more subtle than other forms of discrimination but definitely evident in today's society. The young and old are both seen as dependent, irresponsible, or incapable of doing real work and are often the ones who are rejected from employment opportunites. Today's society tends to rely on stereotypes and put down the youth or the elderly seriously.

The rights of many citizens are being violated to this day despite laws like the ADEA (Age Discrimination in Employment Act) of 1967, which states that people over 40 years of age are not permitted to be discriminated against or Section 188 of the Workforce Investment Act of 1998. These laws prohibit discrimination by race, color, religion, gender, age, nationality, disability, or political beliefs.

In successful lawsuits, age discrimination against a worker suffering from emotional damage, a lowering in wages, or attorney's fees can be compensated many times over. Despite these benefits, age discrimination cases are difficult to prove because of insufficient evidence.
