Child Labor Law Act

Camella Teoli was working in the Lawrence Mill(Massachusetts) and her hair got caught in one of the factories machines. Her scalp and hair was pulled causing her to spend seven months in a hospital.

Camella Teoli spoke to congress about her injury, this caused bad press for the Lawrence Mill and they decided to change. The Lawrence Mill offered workers better wages and shorter week hours.

During the Lawrence Mill strike, 23,000 people went on strike. One of the leaders of the strike was Camella Teoli. She took action by speaking to congress, telling them about what happened to her and the condition of the factories. This movement was important because it showed the horrible conditions of the factories and one of the many Injuries. This was on step closer to the end of child labor.

In the late 2800s and early 1900s factory owners were giving 7-8 year old children jobs to work dangerous jobs such as shifting coal in small dark mines. Many children were injured in this movement called "child labor". A young child named Camella Teoli was one of many.
