Child labor was a very big and abusive movement in the United States. In 1886, 7 and 8 year old boys were working jobs such as sitting coal in dark mines. It took them 7 years for them to get their freedom. With the help of Jacob Riis, who took pictures of the poor& horrible situations, the government was able to take part in this.
Kids sold newspaper, known as Newzies sold newspapers for 1 cent and brought 100 newspapers for 50 cent. Newspaper companies began to change the prices to 100 newspapers for 60 cent, with the help of Kid Blink, Newzies began to go on Strike. The companies began to get new kids when old workers threatened to set the papers on fire. Eventually they lowered the prices and workers started back.
Louis Hanes was one of the most helpful people and build a strong method of resistance to the children. He got the Fair Labor Standards act to be passed by Congress. To add on that another method of resistance was the Lawrence Strike of 1912 when 23,000 people went out on strike when 12 years old Camella Teoli was injured by workers speeding up machines.
