Civil Rights Movement

African Americans were treated very badly from the 1860s onward. They formed a civil rights movement to get everyone to be treated fairly. The movement started from the 1890s to the 1960s. Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Marcus Garvey, Harriet Tubman, Jesse Jackson, Martin Luther Jr, Ida B. Wells all of these people were treated unfairly in the movement. They were successful because now all people are treated fairly.

African Americans suffered many different injustices. For example, young men were lynched by the thousands. Blacks had lack of education and they were segregated. They could not drink out of the same water fountains as whites and they could not even eat in the same restaurants as whites. Someone to look up to is Rosa Parks. She sat in a white man’s seat; she was being forced to get up. She continued to sit their and eventually got arrested. Martin Luther King Jr is also looked up to after his “I have a dream” speech. He stopped the prejudice between whites and blacks.

African Americans had to stand up for what they believe. For example, Rosa Parks who stood up for her rights after getting thrown in prison. She still stood up for her rights, she did not give up. Then African Americans did a boycott. There was Brown vs Board of education, a little girl had a problem and they did not go to the same school as whites. They had separate schools. White’s schools were much nicer then blacks.

One achievement is from the bus Boycott because the whole incident with Rosa Park. A lot of people stopped riding the city buses which caused the drivers to let go. A related primary source is from the newspapers and also google.com.

This movement was important because it tells about how racial
America used to be important in Black history month. Struggles make me feel very good. I am happy that things changed because I would have a bad education and I would probably be harassed.
