The Movement I’m working on is the African American Movement. This movement occurred after the civil war which was in the 1960’s.The cause of this movement was to improve the way African Americans were treated. By that I mean segration and not being equal also they fought to end linching. It was easy to get hanged back in the days for example not moving fast enough or looking at a Caucasian person wrongly. The reason the movement was so successful was because many participants were involved.
African American suffered many injustices. One example of an injustice situation is the incident that occurred with
Rosa parks. On December 1, 1955
Rosa parks disobeyed bus driver James Blake by refusing to get up when told to, to give a white passenger the seat. Another example is lack of education, back then the schools were separated so the African American students weren’t as educated as the Caucasian students. Another injustice that’s occurred was the brown vs. education trail which occurred May 17, 1954. This trail was about a little girl who wanted to go to her neighborhood school but wasn’t allowed to because she was African American , ad because of this she was bused miles away from her home.
African American fought real hard for their rights. They wanted to make a stand; they had to make a stand. African Americans fought for their rights by boycotting by doing this they knew they’d had to be heard one way or another. They also refused to take the bus that way bus drivers weren’t making as much as they did with African Americans. This day and event went down in history and were one the reasons the boycott occurred.
The African American movement was very successful in numerous ways, if you relieved today it’s much different from a century ago. Today I sit in my class with different kids with different nationalities, im able to sit eat at the same restaurant and able to use the same rest rooms. If it weren’t for the many African Americans that protested and boycotted I believe we would still be segregated and unequal.
What made this movement so important to study was the history behind this whole movement. I believe everyone knew about the movement but do everyone knows the history of it. So I wanted to go into details about this movement. The movement’s struggle makes me feel good because they accomplished what they were fighting for. It allows me to appreciate all the people in the past and grateful that they stood up for themselves.
