Women’s rights were a very important movement. This was during the 19th and early 20th century. Some of the participants were Susan B. Anthony, and Alice Paul. One of the causes of the movement was that women didn’t have the right to vote. Another cause was that they did not have social rights. Social rights give people the right to use goods, facilities and services. Women also didn’t have economic rights, economic rights are when you can earn a living and own property. This movement was successful because they were given the right to vote.
Economic rights were not given to women. Economic rights are the right to earn a living and own your own property. Most women were not given this right because they were married. Women would only have to work if they were poor, and they would have to earn less then men. Another injustice women suffered was political rights. Political rights are when a person can take part in the government. Women also didn’t have social rights. Social rights are when people have the ability to use goods, facilities and services without being discriminated.
These women tried to go on hunger strikes but they would be feed by force through feeding tubes. They would also try to protest but they were beaten up by men and the police would do nothing about it. They were also put into jails that had horrible conditions and many rats. Also a group of 300 women met in
Seneca Falls, New York and wrote the Declaration of Sentiments base on the Declaration of Independence. The women wrote that all men and women are created equal. Alice Paul was one of the leaders. She protested even if she was discriminated against. These methods worked because they were peaceful and they did not cause harm to anyone.
They finally achieved one of their goals and were given the right to vote. They were later given more rights and were equal to men.
This was an important movement because if this didn’t happen women would not be leading companies or businesses. Women would not even be given the right to vote if they didn’t stand up for their rights. This is why this movement was important.
