Childrens Rights

There are many civil rights in our country but the one that really hits home wit me is children’s rights. In the early 1900’s children under the age of 13, living in poor conditions usually set out find work. As factories began growing and expanding throughout the country these children found work in those factories, coal mines, mills and selling newspapers on the street. Factory liked to hire children because they were allowed pay them very little. The children also got hurt and sick while working in such poor and dangerous conditions. There many people that were against children’s right but there were also many people who fought for children sights. People such as Mother Jones, and Jacob Riis.

There were many injustices in the children’s right era. Many of the children working in factories worked with no protection on there feet and hands. This caused the children to get there toes and or fingers cut off by the huge machines that hey were working with. Young children that worked in mines usually got extremely ill by breathing in the toxins and dirt from the mine into there lungs. All of this injustices resulted in lung dieses, stun in growth, loss of limbs and in some cases death.

Children were treated o unfairly even they started to realize it. They seeked for leadership. Someone who strongly believed in the cause. This person also needed to be and adult. Finally they found there leader in Mother Jones. She and 1600 children marched on
Washington to fight children’s rights. They walked and marched and when they finally got there President Roosevelt turned them away. The children didn’t even get a far chance to stand up for themselves.

This minor set back did not stop children fighting for there rights. They rallied and protested and after there long and restless fight the won there battle. The government passed a law that states that children under the age of children finally 14 cannot work. There was another law passed that said that even though the 14 year old children are children they still should get paid equal like  everyone else and they should get paid an equal amount of over time.

In conclusion the child rights moment finally ended.  Because of those children and mother Jones and all of the people that helped during the moment I have my very own rights as a child. I can wok freely and without trouble where ever I want. I get maid that same as every one else. As a child I a proud to say I am free because of the children’s rights movement.
