African American Civil Rights

African American Civil Rights happened between 1860’s to 1960’s. Many people helped with the civil rights movement, such as Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., Ida B. Willis, Marcus Garvey, Jesse Jackson, Shirley Chislom, Fredrick Douglass and the NAACP. They did this movement because of segration, lynching, and discrimination (voting, restroom, water fountain, bus, etc.) Women didn’t have the right to vote and so did African Americans. African American stood up for what they thought was right. They boycotted because they believed that African Americans shouldn’t sit in the back of the bus. So African Americans didn’t ride on the bus. The movement was successful.

African Americans had many problems. Children had problems too. African Americans and white children had to go to different schools. They weren’t allowed to be taught together. As time went by African Americans went to school with white children. African American children didn’t get the same right education as white children. African Americans weren’t allowed to walk on the side walk because they might bump into a white person or else it they will be lynched. African Americans didn’t get the home that they wanted because white families didn’t want an African American living in their home. They would send them away saying “that the house was sold”. African Americans couldn’t do any thing that white people could do.

Many African Americans stood up for what they believe. Rosa Parks protested for African Americans sitting in the back of the bus by sitting in the front of the bus. Then she got arrested, she stood up for her rights. Then most of the African Americans did a boycott.  A case called Brown vs. Board of Education. A little girl had a problem with African American and white children didn’t go to the same school. They didn’t have the same teaching rights. Plessy vs. Fergusun helped stop segregation, protesting, boycotting, also because the buses wouldn’t make as much money and hurt the companies

There were many achievements during the African American civil war. African Americans had more freedom. African Americans and white children were staring to go to school together. African Americans and White people were going to work together. African Americans were allowed to ride in front of the bus with white people. African Americans were part of the American government. For example, becoming a senator, congressmen and other government jobs.

When the Civil Rights ended, African Americans were allowed to have the same rights as white Americans. All African Americans were fighting in what they believed in. There were many solutions that African Americans did to have the same rights. They felt that they should be equal and the kept trying and trying until they succeeded. Today, African Americans and White children are going to school together. We are all friends with different cultures, religions and color. All of the movements that they did change a lot of people. Showing people that they are supported of what they believe in.
