Women’s Suffrage Movement

The women’s suffrage movement took place in the 1800’s. Some of the participants of this movement were Susan B. Anthony, Lucretia Mott, Lucy Stone, Julia Ward Howe, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. The causes were that women were not treated equal as men of either race. The women were the dominant gender and they were not able to do things like vote.
They had many injustices like not being able to vote. They weren’t able to go to school which is a major aspect in someone’s life. One last injustice was that when they worked they were paid less money than men when working the same jobs as men. A lot of women weren’t even able to work and they had to stay with their husbands to have money. This was not a fair thing and it had to be stopped.
The Methods of Resistance of this movement were that many of the women had done a lot of marching and picketing. One leader that took action was Susan B. Anthony who also became president of the National American Association in 1892. Over the years of this happening she worked and expressed her frustration. She expressed this because she was very angry that women weren’t able to get their equal rights. One related primary source was when they were marching for their rights in 1913.These women would make a difference in later years. Their methods and goals were achieved in 1920 when they were able to vote. When you get the ability to vote, you have power. They finally got what they deserved.
The nineteenth amendment granted all citizens the right to vote including women. This matter had gone to the Congress. The reason is because they needed the men to change this law on the U.S Constitution. Luckily three quarters of all the states had agreed to this and women had there equal rights.
This movement is an important study because women are the most dominant gender in the
U.S. That is the reason this problem had to be solved. The struggles of this made me feel bad because women should not be treated badly. They shouldn’t be treated this way especially if they are the dominant gender. I wish I was living back then and I would have changed this problem earlier than the time it did end.
