The Fight of Their Life

Throughout American history women have been treated unfairly. Before the 1920’s woman did not have many rights. They were mistreated and had little say in the government. They did not have the right to vote. Woman finally had enough. They could not stand down anymore. It was their time to fight. This is how the Woman’s Civil Rights Movement came to be.

Many women like Alice Paul, Susan B. Anthony, Carrie Nation, Sojourner Truth, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and many other suffragists tried to change the law. Woman fought for their political rights. They wanted to be equal to men. They held many protests. These protests included marching and picketing. In 1917 women picketed in front of the white house. They wanted to make a difference. They wanted their rights.

One important leader during this movement was Susan B. Anthony. Over the years she expressed her frustration over the difficulty of gaining suffrage. Susan B. Anthony made a difference in other women’s lives. She was an important leader and stood up for women everywhere.

After fighting many frustrating years suffragists had finally won. They finally got their rights in 1920 when the 19th amendment was passed. This amendment was what they were waiting for. It gave all citizens the right to vote. Women had survived the fight.

This movement was an important part of history. Women had won the fight. They got their rights and their hard work finally paid off. This movement really made a difference and if it did not exist women would not have rights today. Because of this movement women have equal rights.
