This Web site defines environmental rights and explains what we can do to make a difference. http://www.environment.gov.za/enviro-info/env/rights.htm Enviromental rights include equal access to a safe enviroment such as safe air to breathe, clean parks and waterways. However, today not everyone has equal enviromental rights. Places such as the South Bronx have polluted air casuing a large amount of people to have asthma. Without clean air and water everyone would suffer. A poor enviorment can lead to asthma and cancer. With industrial factories on the rise, the enviroment is generally becoming worse. According to the constitution, people have equal rights. Bringing people together into this campaign can lead to improvements in all of our lives. Environmental rights are the rights to a clean environment, sanitary air, and natural resources for use by the public. Most cities in in New York do not have many trees, parks or open areas. There are too many fumes, and not enough trees to provide us with clean air. For example, the Bronx has many highways and buildings that produce many toxic gases that pollute the air. There are barely any parks in the Bronx and this causes some citizens to develop asthma. If there were more natural resources and trees in the Bronx, this would not be the case and the Bronx would be much cleaner. There is a In the past, minorities in America were treated unfairly. Race determined people's rights in society. African Americans and Asian Americans were treated differently than white people. They were not allowed to attend public schools with the whites. Schools minorities attended were often poorly funded. Today, a similar situation countinues. Even though we are all supposed to have equal rights, some neighborhoods in New York City have these poor conditions. These are often neighborhoods where minorities live. In the South Bronx there is a lack of clean air and natural resources such as trees, parks, and fresh air. People in the South Bronx suffer greatly from asthma because of the air pollution. Planting trees may decrease the amount of air pollution. We need to stop this injustice for the good of each other. Every day a life is affected. |
